The Tennessee Chapter of the ACS is honored to host the 2025 – 2025 American College of Surgeons President, Anton N. Sidawy, MD, MPH, FACS, DFSVS, MAMSE, who will provide the ACS Update at the 2026 Tennessee Chapter Annual Meeting.

Dr. Sidawy is Professor and Lewis B. Saltz Chair of the Department of Surgery at the George Washington University in Washington, DC. He is a Vascular Surgeon who completed his Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Boston University Hospital. He also obtained an M.P.H. degree in Health Care Administration from George Washington University.
He has published about 200 peer-reviewed articles, 60 chapters, and made several national presentations and visiting professorships. In addition, Dr. Sidawy concluded a 7.5-year term as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Vascular Surgery, the premier journal of the specialty. During his term as editor, Dr. Sidawy launched two new journals: the Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders in 2013 and the Journal of Vascular Surgery-Cases in 2015.
Dr. Sidawy served on the Board of Governors and just concluded a 9-year term on the Board of Regents of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and was elected its chair in 2021-2022. He currently serves as President of the ACS. He has also served on several groups and committees of the Board, including Chair of the Executive Committee, the Finance Committee, the Executive Compensation Committee, and the inaugural Education Advisory Committee. He also serves on the Steering Committee of the ACS Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.
As an ACS Regent and SVS Past-President, Dr. Sidawy worked with both organizations to collaborate on the Vascular Verification Quality Program, which was launched in 2023 in its inpatient and outpatient formats. He received an SVS Presidential citation for initiating, developing, and guiding these two verification programs to operational status and continues to chair their steering committee. He is the recipient of several awards and honors, including the LaSalle D. Lefall award for “Outstanding contributions to the profession of surgery and to the entire metropolitan Washington community” from the Metropolitan Washington Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. In addition, the Chapter has named a lectureship after Dr. Sidawy for his over 20 years of service to the Chapter. Also, the 2009 New York Vascular Surgery Fellows Competition Award was named after Dr. Sidawy; this is a clinical and basic scientific competition of all vascular fellows and residents in training programs in the eastern region of the United States.
